About Dr Ashis Mukhopadhya

Personal Profile

Dr Mukhopadhya trained in Christian Medical College, one of the premier medical colleges in India. His focus of interest is in Hepatology and advanced Endoscopy. He has attained a vast amount of training experience in two premier institutions, Christian Medical College in Vellore, India and the Royal Infirmary in Edinburgh. 

Ashis has also had brief training stints at the Royal Free and the University College in London that have added to my clinical repertoire. He is currently working as a consultant at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary since 2009. Ashis is the current Clinical Service Director for the Digestive Disorders Department. 

He also undertakes bowel screening colonoscopies. Ashis has participated in clinical research, has several publications in peer-reviewed journals and has a keen academic interest in portal hypertension and cirrhosis. As a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh, he is frequently called upon to examine for the MRCP exams for the college.

Clinical Interests

Dr Mukhopadhya's main focus of interest is in liver diseases but looks after a wide range of patients with gastrointestinal diseases. He has expertise in management of viral hepatitis and cirrhosis and is also a keen endoscopist specialising in endoscopy, colonoscopy, bowel screening colonoscopy and ERCP. Ashis also has expertise in oesophageal stenting, botulinum injection for achalasia, polypectomy, variceal ligation and argon plasma coagulation of vascular lesions.
