Dr Arutchelvam Vijayaraman is a Consultant Physician at Woodlands Hospital. He specialises in endocrinology, diabetes and obesity.

He has more than 40 years' experience as a Physician, and 27 years' as an Endocrinologist. Endocrinology is a wide field encompassing multiple medical problems and involves finding solutions in a logical and scientific way. 

Dr Vijayaraman trained in 'Diabetes, Endocrinology and General Medicine' in Newcastle upon Tyne from 2001 to 2009. He also completed holistic training including experience in teaching and research.

He started his career as a Consultant at James Cook University Hospital, Middlesborough in May 2019. Here, he lead and delivered specialised clinics in:

He was 'Training Programme Director for Endocrinology' for 6 years, Deputy Head of the School of Medicine and Vice Chair for the national training programme for endocrinology for 11 years. He was instrumental in developing the curriculum for obesity management. He works with the bariatric surgeons across the region to provide support for post-operative management with weight-related surgeries.

Dr Vijayaraman has published multiple papers in international journals and currently leads the obesity service regionally for the North East Commissioners (NENC ICB).
