Dr Arun Rajendran is a gastroenterologist with special interest in colonoscopy, therapeutic endoscopy and Inflammatory bowel disease.
He graduated in 2001 and completed his postgraduate specialist gastroenterology training in North West London. He spent 3 years in St Marks Hospital for his postgraduate research and teaching fellowship. He was awarded a research MD from Kings College London (2020) following the submission of his thesis examining the learning curve of colonoscopic polypectomy. He has peer reviewed publications arising from this research and has been awarded the 2016 NIHR CLAHRC support award, 2016 ASGE Cook Medical Marsha Dreyer Award and 2016 BSG best teaching abstract award. He has also presented his work in both national and international meetings.
He completed his PG certificate in Medical Education in 2015 leading to the accreditation to the Higher Education academy (FHEA) in 2017. He maintains an active research and teaching interest as Senior Clinical Teacher (Imperial College, London) and continues to peer review articles for international journals, contribute to research by recruiting patients for clinical trials, present in national and international meetings on topics of cancer screening, training, inflammatory bowel disease.
He is the council member of the Royal Society of Medicine (Gastroenterology and Hepatology section), member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG), International member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE), European Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ESGE) and European Crohn’s and Colitis Organisation (ECCO). He regularly contributes nationally and internationally as multidisciplinary working group member for improving quality of endoscopy training.
Dr Rajendran was appointed as a full-time substantive consultant in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine at Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in 2018. He is the Endoscopy Training Lead for the Trust. He offers outpatient and interventional endoscopy services at both Hillingdon and Mount Vernon Hospitals in addition to seeing patients with a full range of gastroenterology, general hepatology and Inflammatory bowel disease in his NHS practice. He also covers emergency cases at Harefield Hospital.
Dr Rajendran is proficient in managing all aspects of general gastrointestinal and liver disorders, including reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease. He is skilled in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy including the assessment of Barrett’s, Inflammatory bowel disease, polyps and cancers. He is well versed in English, Hindi, Tamil and Kannada.
He employs a patient centred approach and strives to provide a high quality, safe, efficient individualised care to all his patients.
