Training and Appointment
Mr Khaleel graduated in 1989, completed his Basic Surgical Training in London and Higher Surgical Training in Trauma and Orthopaedics on the South East St Thomas and Guy's rotation. He obtained an MSc in Trauma and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation and Technology from the University of Dundee. He was appointed Consultant at Ashford and St Peter's Hospital in 2002.
Mr Khaleel's Orthopaedic training and practice involves managing disorders of the Lower Limb including arthroscopic (keyhole surgery) and Joint Replacement Surgery of the hip, knee and ankle joints. He treats sports related injuries such as ankle stabilisation surgery and stress fracture management.
He uses the current evidence-based techniques and implants.
Mr Khaleel carries out surgery to fix bone and joint fractures including when they have failed to unite (non-union) or healed with deformity that needs correction (mal union). He did a Fellowship in Trauma and Limb Reconstruction Surgery and undertook specialized training at the Ilizarov Scientific Centre, Kurgan, Siberia. This allows him to offer trauma and limb reconstruction surgery to patients locally, from regional hospitals and on occasions from abroad.
He has an interest in foot and ankle disorders and routinely carries out complex procedures and revision surgeries including forefoot, midfoot and hind foot bone and tendon disorders. He manages Acute Charcot of the foot - a complex and disabling condition.
Mr Khaleel also advises on, and treats, some hand conditions like Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, trigger finger and Dupuytren's contractures.
Mr Khaleel has been involved in research to improve patient care directly and improve understanding of pathologies. Studies include how best to place components during joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee; biomechanical and clinical studies in the ideal way to fix fractures; and outcome studies following surgical intervention.
He has been Honorary Senior Lecturer at the Royal Holloway University of London. He is a reviewer for peer reviewed journals in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery.
