Dr Arjuna Nagendran qualified from University College London in 2011 gaining further research experience during a BSc in Neuroscience, qualifying with Honours. Following foundational medical and surgical training, he was subsequently appointed to specialise in neurophysiology and neurology at the UK’s leading neurology hospital, the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery (Queen Square), where he gained extensive experience of neuromuscular conditions and developed proficiency in the full range of routine and specialised electrophysiological examinations. He gained his paediatric experience at Great Ormond Street Hospital.  

Dr Nagendran currently works as a Consultant in Clinical Neurophysiology at the National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery in Queen Square, where his role includes leading Nerve conduction and electromyography (EMG) clinics as well as supervising and teaching trainee doctors in the specialty. His role also involves work within the Queen Square Centre of Neuromuscular Diseases, providing specialised EMG studies to patients referred from across the UK to the Highly Specialised Service for Muscle channelopathies. He has lectured in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programs at University College London and Great Ormond Street Hospitals and has been an invited speaker at regional and national conferences including the British Peripheral Nerve Society. 

He is an active member of the British Society of Clinical Neurophysiologists as well as the British Peripheral Nerve Society, British Neurotoxin Network and the Royal College of Physicians. His current research focuses on the neurophysiological findings in muscle and nerve disorders and he has presented research findings frequently at several national and international conferences. Working within the Cochrane Neuromuscular group, he recently collaborated with international colleagues to update national consensus on the use of Corticosteroids in Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and has collaborated with colleagues at Queen Square to improve understanding of neurophysiological data in several inflammatory nerve conditions. His research has been published in several peer-reviewed journals, including most recently Muscle & Nerve. 

Dr Nagendran is one of only a few neurophysiologists in the country currently practising nerve excitability studies (QTrac) in the UK and continues to aim to help progress this emerging technology and facilitate further research through collaboration with other international centres. 

Outside of medicine, Dr Nagendran is an enthusiastic runner and pianist and attends lectures in Economics with Justice in his spare time. 
 
Together with his neurological examination, Dr Nagendran performs EMG and Nerve Conduction studies to investigate and aim to confirm a diagnosis in the full range of nerve and muscle conditions (including Carpal tunnel syndrome, Cubital tunnel syndrome (ulnar neuropathy), Peripheral neuropathy, Nerve root entrapments (neck/lower back) Muscle conditions (myopathy, myositis) and rarer neuromuscular conditions.
