Dr Ahmed is a Consultant in Pain Medicine with extensive clinical training and experience in the comprehensive management of acute and chronic pain. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate medical training at Assam Medical College, India, in 2002 and 2008 respectively. He subsequently pursued further specialist training in chronic pain at Singapore General Hospital in 2013, broadening his experience in the multidisciplinary assessment and management of complex pain conditions.
In 2025, Dr Ahmed undertook Advanced Pain Training in London at St George’s Hospital and King’s College Hospital, gaining extensive experience in the assessment and management of complex chronic pain conditions and a wide range of interventional pain procedures. Following completion of his advanced training, he was appointed as a Substantive Consultant in Pain Medicine at University Hospital Lewisham in 2025.
Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Dr Ahmed serves as a Faculty Pain Tutor at University Hospital Lewisham, contributing to the education, supervision and professional development of doctors undertaking training in Pain Medicine. He has a particular interest in clinical education and in supporting the development of the next generation of pain specialists.
Dr Ahmed’s clinical practice is centred on a holistic, individualised and evidence-based approach to chronic pain management. He recognises the complex interaction of biological, psychological and social factors in persistent pain and works closely with multidisciplinary teams to develop personalised treatment plans. His approach incorporates a carefully considered and appropriately titrated combination of interventional and non-interventional pain management strategies, with the aim of reducing pain, improving physical function and enhancing patients’ overall quality of life.
He has a strong academic interest in Pain Medicine and has been involved in multiple original research projects within the specialty. He has also contributed to the development and authorship of clinical guidance in cancer pain management. His academic work has been presented through numerous oral presentations and scientific posters at national and international meetings.
Dr Ahmed has also been invited as a guest speaker at international Pain Medicine conferences and scientific meetings, reflecting his continuing engagement with education, research and developments within the specialty.
Through his combined roles in clinical practice, education and research, Dr Ahmed is committed to delivering safe, compassionate, evidence-based and patient-centred pain care, while contributing to the continuing development of Pain Medicine as a specialty.

Where clinically appropriate and following careful assessment, Dr Ahmed offers a range of image-guided and targeted interventional procedures as part of a broader multidisciplinary pain-management strategy. These include:
• Epidural injections – cervical, thoracic, lumbar and caudal
• Selective nerve root injections – cervical, thoracic and lumbar
• Facet medial branch blocks and radiofrequency denervation for selected patients with facet-mediated spinal pain
• Sacroiliac joint injections and radiofrequency procedures
• Knee Genicular nerve blocks and radiofrequency ablation for knee pain
• Articular branch nerve blocks and radiofrequency procedures for chronic hip pain
• Articular nerve blocks and radiofrequency procedures for selected shoulder pain
• Myofascial injections
• Targeted peripheral nerve blocks
• Pulsed radiofrequency treatment of selected peripheral nerves
