He trained at Imperial College School of Medicine and completed higher surgical training in the North Thames Deanery (London). He completed the Royal College of Surgeons post CCT Rhinology and Facial Plastic Surgery fellowship at Charing Cross Hospital, London.
He has also worked as a Leadership fellow at NHS England. During this time, he led national projects aimed at improving the medical treatment of patients with COVID 19 in hospitals which gained national recognition.
Annakan is actively involved in training the next generation of surgeons. He regularly volunteers to give talks to school children about medicine as a career. He mentors medical students and junior doctors as well as being a clinical supervisor for higher surgical trainees in ENT. He frequently teaches on local and national instructional ENT courses and is an invited speaker at international conferences.
His research interests includes improving patient education through shared decision making, evaluating sinonasal surgery outcomes using large national datasets and the adoption of innovation into surgical practice. He has written six NHS England national clinical guidelines, authored over 70 papers in peer reviewed journals and has been awarded 13 prizes for his clinical and academic endeavours.
Annakan and his family live in Harrow and are actively involved in the local community. Annakan is a keen sportsman, having played rugby and cricket to a regional representative level.
