About Miss Anjana Singh

Personal Profile

Miss Singh qualified with honours in Surgery from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical School and completed her Specialist General and Colorectal Surgical training in London, North-East Thames deanery. She obtained her MD thesis having been awarded the Royal College of surgeons’ research fellowship and has a number of presentations at International and National meetings, including in the prestigious Patey prize section of the Surgical Research Society.

Following appointment as a full-time substantive Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) in August 2008, she was offered and undertook a 3-month attachment in USA, observing and learning from colorectal surgical practices in renowned centres such as Cleveland and Mayo clinics.  Subsequently, she established Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery and the Enhanced Recovery Programme at MKUH, which in combination has resulted in greatly improved outcomes for patients, reduced complications and reduced length of stay in hospital.

Since 2000, her practice has evolved to include Robotic colorectal surgery. These areas have also informed her research interest as a consultant, and she has several publications to her name. Miss Singh is an accredited Laparoscopic and endoscopy trainer. She is the Thames Valley regional representative for ASGBI and is also the Regional Speciality Advisor (RSPA).  She is an advocate for sustainable surgery, innovation and reducing surgical site infection and venous thrombo-embolism associated with surgery.

Her other interests include surgical education, and she has recently completed a PgCert in medical education. Miss Singh is the Royal College of Surgeons’ of England Surgical Tutor for MKUH and is also an examiner for the JCIE National surgical FRCS and MRCS examinations. In her free time, she enjoys long walks, reading and dining out with family and friends.

Clinical Interests

Her surgical practice includes management of the full range of colorectal conditions including minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and robotic), Colorectal cancer and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Specific areas of interests are anal and rectal conditions such as anal fissure, fistula-in-ano and haemorrhoid. as well as general surgical conditions such as hernias and gall bladder disease. She also performs colonoscopy and polypectomy, flexible sigmoidoscopy and gastroscopy.
