Having trained within the UK, Mr Thomson completed a 2 year fellowship in Sydney, Australia before taking up his consultant post. He has progressed gynaecological surgery by introducing laparoscopic (key hole) surgery for the vast majority of procedures which were previously performed through open incisions. The benefits to patients are huge, with reduced length of stay and quicker recovery and return to normal activities. The use of minimally invasive surgery (hysteroscopic / laparoscopic / vaginal surgery) is certainly the main stay of Mr Thomson’s practice.

Mr Thomson serves on the National Council of the BSGE (British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy) and helps coordinate the educational and scientific meetings of the BSUG (British Society of Urogynaecology). He works closely with GPs and clinical colleagues within Gynaecology and other Specialties (Radiology / Colorectal Surgery / Urology / Pain Management) to ensure the best outcome for individual patients.

His special interests lie in laparoscopic surgery for treatment and excision of endometriosis, management of ovarian cysts and hysterectomies, pelvic pain, prolapse surgery and the management of female continence. He has been widely published and has presented professionally during his career.
