About Dr Andrew Peter Holt

Personal Profile

Dr Holt is a well-known Consultant Gastroenterologist working at The Liver Unit in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. The Birmingham Liver Unit is world famous and was one of the first transplant centres in Europe. Andrew is one of the senior Liver Specialists at the unit and sees patients referred to him from across the country with different types of liver disease and abnormal blood tests. In addition to his private clinic on a Tuesday afternoon, Dr Holt sees patients in regular clinics at Birmingham, Gloucester, and Hereford Hospitals as well as Nobles Hospital on the Isle of Man.

Dr Holt is happy to see patients with more straightforward GI problems like heartburn, indigestion, abnormal liver tests and dyspepsia. His clinic offers ELF blood tests (a blood test that can detect liver scarring) and FibroScan™ examination of the liver – a painless & non-invasive means of looking for signs of liver disease.

He has a particular specialist interest in liver and pancreas disease, including fatty liver, viral hepatitis and less common conditions such as Haemochromatosis, PBC, PSC and Autoimmune hepatitis and looks after patients with primary liver cancer (HCC). Dr Holt is a core member of the Specialist Liver Cancer MDT at the liver unit which has access to TACE, SIRT, SABR and microwave ablation therapies.
