His interests have always been breast cancer and skin cancer. He co-led the development and delivery of the first combined dermatology / plastic surgery skin cancer clinic at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Paisley. He has been actively involved in the Managed Clinical Networks for skin cancer, and was clinical lead for the West of Scotland Skin Cancer Network for a period of time. He contributed to the most recent national guidelines on the management of malignant melanoma, and led the revision of West of Scotland guidelines on the management of non-melanoma skin cancer. He offers advice and a full range of surgical treatments for known or suspected skin cancers, other skin lesions such as moles, or subcutaneous lesions such as lipomas.
Alongside clinical practice he is National Clinical Lead for a Scottish patient safety programme (Scan for Safety), and is a professional advisor to the Scottish Government. He has previously been chair of the UK Intercollegiate Committee for Basic Surgical Examinations OSCE subgroup, with responsibility for delivering the national entrance examination for surgical training. He has been involved in training for many years, and continues to be involved in local and national training courses.
