He obtained a Master of Surgery Degree for Higher Research into the Optimal Treatment of Deafness/Glue Ear in Children from Bristol University in 1991. He also holds the qualification of Diploma in Laryngology and Otology at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

Mr Parker is an ENT Consultant Surgeon in Sheffield, and having been at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital from 1988, relinquished his appointment in 2015 to concentrate on NHS and private clinical practice in the independent sector. Originally from Derbyshire, Mr Parker’s training was initially in Yorkshire and then in the South West of England before returning to South Yorkshire for Senior Registrar training and then Consultancy.

He runs a busy clinical practice centred in the Hope Valley, High Peak and Sheffield areas but with access to clinical facilities in Matlock. In addition, he regularly undertakes assessments at various venues throughout the country. He has good general training in all areas of ENT practice, but sub-specialises in the management of patients with nasal/sinus disorders, voice disorders, hearing loss/tinnitus and balance problems.

Mr Parker was accorded the status of Senior Lecturer at Sheffield University from 1992 and latterly at Edge Hill University, where he is a Member of the Faculty of the Surgical Masters Programme.  He has coordinated, undertaken and supervised numerous important research projects within the field of Otorhinolaryngology over the years, including assessment and examination to higher degree level (MSc/MPhil/MD etc). For a period of 12 years, he was the Organiser and Chairman of the Inter Deanery University Challenge Competition run on a regular basis at various British Academic ENT Conferences throughout the UK. 

He maintains an active research programme and one of academic development. His latest publications include those relating to acoustic shock, i.e. symptoms associated with exposure to sudden on-set short duration high intensity sounds.

He has been Programme Director for the North Trent ENT training rotation and a member of the Specialist Accreditation Committee for the joint Royal Colleges of the United Kingdom. He was responsible for the initiation and implementation of hospitals in Hull, Rotherham and Lincoln into the Sheffield-Doncaster ENT training rotation during the 1990s, with resulting improvement in the broad based training now offered. Mr Parker was a Co-founder of the Trent Regional Temporal Bone/Middle Ear Surgery training course faculty, through which all ENT juniors in Higher Surgical Training are required to attend, and where this facility is now centred in Derby. He is a Member of the Court of Examiners at the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has been an External Adviser for the NHS Ombudsman.

Mr Parker was a member of the invited Review Panel, Division of Professional Standards and Regulation of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and has been involved in the validation of pilot assessments for fitness to practise at the General Medical Council (GMC). He is currently one of the Chief Invigilators in respect of the Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board examinations run by the General Medical Council and was involved in re-profiling the examinations to its present modern format.

He has been revalidated by the GMC until 2025 and is fully compliant with the continuing professional development and appraisal process.

He has undertaken medicolegal work at Consultant level since 1992, not only in respect of noise-induced hearing loss but personal injury and medical negligence. Mr Parker has given evidence in numerous leading cases in these areas which have been accepted by the Court. He is frequently called upon to address eminent legal meetings including those of the Liverpool Law Society and various other legal professional associations. He was one of the defence expert witnesses in the Nottingham Textile cases (Parkes v Meridian & Others, February 2007). Most recently, Mr Parker gave evidence in the widely publicised Goldscheider v Royal Opera House, Covent Garden case where his evidence was accepted and which resulted in the claimant being awarded a significant sum in damages.
