About Mr Andrew Carswell

Personal Profile

Mr Carswell is a highly experienced and well-established Consultant ENT Surgeon with a special interest in thyroid and head & neck surgery.  He runs his private practice across the Bath, Swindon and Wiltshire Area.  He also works as an NHS Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Royal Unit Hospital, NHS Trust in Bath.  He is currently Clinical Lead for ENT Surgery in Bath, having previously been Clinic Lead for ENT Surgery at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

After graduating from Manchester Medical School in 2002, he remained in Manchester for his basic surgical training which included ENT and General Endocrine Surgery. In 2006 Andrew moved back to the Southwest for further ENT training, appointed to the south-west ENT higher surgical training rotation in 2007. Having gained experience and competencies in all the subspecialties of ENT including rhinology, he spent the latter two years of his training focusing on Head, Neck and Thyroid surgery in Bristol.

In July 2012 he began his International Fellowship in Advanced ENT, head & neck surgery at Professor Coman’s world renowned unit in Brisbane, Australia. After this finished in June 2013 he returned to the UK where he gained further training both within the head & neck surgical service in Bristol University Hospitals,and also with the lead Endocrine Surgeon at North Bristol.

Andy is a keen surgical trainer.  Throughout his Consultant career he has led training for junior doctors, including working as the Deputy Director of Foundation Training at Great Western Hospital and was elected Secretary for the Young Consultants in Otolaryngology Association.  He sat on the higher surgical training committee for both Oxford/Thames Valley region as well as the Bristol/Severn region.  He was awarded a Clinical Excellence award, in part, due to his commitment to training.

 

Clinical Interests

  • Main area of interest is throat problems and cancer, regularly performing surgery for neck lumps, sinus disease and nasal airway procedures.
