About Mr Andreas Demetriades

Personal Profile

As a neurosurgeon and spinal surgeon, Mr Demetriades deals with adult and paediatric patients with brain and spine problems. These include brain tumours, haemorrhage, hydrocephalus, Chiari malformations and facial pain (trigeminal neuralgia). His special special interest is the spine, having received specialised training in both simple and complex spinal procedures as well as minimally invasive spine surgery.

His aim is to treat these conditions non-operatively as far as possible, but when necessary to provide the latest and most advanced surgical expertise. To this effect Mr Demetriades has supplemented his training with post-specialisation fellowships in both neurosurgical and orthopaedic centres, both in the UK and abroad, thus obtaining a unique perspective on treatment options and techniques.

Mr Demetriades also deals with patients with carpal tunnel syndrome and ulnar nerve compression.

After graduating from Cambridge, he completed the Basic Surgical Training at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square, London. He entered the Higher Surgical Training programme on the South London circuit and trained as a Senior Registrar at King’s College Hospital, St George’s Hospital, and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. Mr Demetriades completed fellowships in skull base surgery in Tokyo, Neurosurgical Spine in Munich, and Orthopaedic Spine in Oxford. He is currently a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Western General Hospital, Edinburgh.

Please note, Mr Demetriades does not see BUPA or AXA patients.
