His specialist training was in the Sheffield (North Trent) Orthopaedic rotation. He undertook higher surgical training by doing a fellowship in Spinal Surgery at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals. He then proceeded to build upon these skills by doing the prestigious combined neurosurgical/orthopaedic National Spinal Fellowship at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.
He was appointed as a Substantive Consultant Spinal Surgeon at The Salford Royal Foundation Trust (major trauma centre) and The Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital 2013.
Mr Tambe has a wide practice in spinal surgery, and undertakes complex procedures in all areas of the spine (cervical, thoracic and lumbar) with varied pathological conditions, including paediatric and adult deformity.
He is a member of many spinal societies, including the AO Spine Society and is on their faculty for education. He is also the Audit Lead for complex spinal surgery at Salford Royal Foundation Trust.
He is very keen on continuous quality improvement in spinal surgery to ensure the best patient outcomes. He enters all his patient data onto the British Spine Registry and Spinetango to assess his patient outcomes. This gives him a valuable self-audit tool to constantly improve his practise. Having had major spinal surgery himself, Mr Tambe understands the challenges that patients face following surgery and is able to guide them during their recovery with empathy and understanding.
He relaxes by reading fiction and crime. He enjoys cooking and follows cricket with a passion.
