Personal Profile

Hailing from Goa-India, Dr Anand Virgincar completed his medical schooling in 1986 and completed an internal medicine postgraduate degree course in 1990 at Goa Medical College, reputedly the oldest medical educational institute in Asia.

Subsequently, he specialised in neurology at the Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences in Mumbai under the tutelage of the internationally renowned neurophysician Professor B S Singhal and qualified as a neurologist in 1994, after taking the Diplomate degree examinations conducted by the National Boards, New Delhi.

A passionate interest in medical technology led Dr Virgincar to further subspecialise in Neurophysiology at the Radcliffe Infirmary in Oxford & immediately after completing his specialist training in 1999, was appointed as a Consultant In Clinical Neurophysiology by the Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals (with responsibility for provision of services to the National Spinal Injuries Centre in Stoke Mandeville).

Dr Anand Virgincar is a firm believer in the principle that an investigation needs to be interpreted in the overall clinical context. Hence, all his patients are booked into 1 hour slots providing ample time for as detailed a clinical evaluation as dictated by individual cases before proceeding to the neurophysiological test.

This approach and the 6 plus years of clinical neurology experience preceding his neurophysiology practice helps him particularly in handling referrals from non-neurologists like Orthopaedic & Plastic surgeons who are often mistakenly referred non-surgical issues masquerading as one’s needing surgical intervention.

Also , being keenly aware of the disproportionate concern often caused by even benign neurological symptoms, Dr Virgincar attempts to offer all patients appointments within 10 days of receiving a referral & dispatches reports within 24 hours of the study.

He is available 24/7 on the phone to referring consultants & hospital staff to resolve queries & for discussion on complex and/or urgent cases.
