Understanding Prostate Health: What Every Man Should Know

The prostate is a small but important gland that’s found only in men. It sits just below the bladder and surrounds the urethra – the tube that carries urine out of the body. While small, it plays a key role in fertility and male sexual health. As men get older, it’s common for the prostate to become enlarged. This condition is called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and it isn’t cancer – but it can cause some uncomfortable urinary symptoms, such as:

Trouble starting to urinate

A weak or slow urine stream

Feeling like your bladder isn’t emptying fully.

Needing to go more often, especially during the night

Prostate cancer is also quite common, particularly in men over the age of 50. It often doesn’t cause any symptoms in the early stages, which is why regular checks and blood tests like the PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) test can be so important for early detection and peace of mind.
If you’re experiencing any of the above symptoms or have concerns about your prostate health, getting checked by a specialist is a simple step that can make a big difference.

If you're diagnosed with prostate cancer, you can feel confident that you're in expert hands with Mr Hawary. His approach is personalised, supportive, and backed by a dedicated team of specialists who work together to ensure you receive the very best care. Your case will be carefully reviewed by a team of experts, including oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists, to create a treatment plan that’s tailored to you.Treatment options are based on:

How aggressive the cancer is

Your overall health and lifestyle

Whether the cancer has spread

Together with you, Mr Hawary will explain your options clearly and guide you through the next steps. Common treatment options may include:

Active surveillance – monitoring the cancer closely with regular check-ups, especially for slow-growing, low-risk cancer

Minimally invasive surgery – such as robotic-assisted prostatectomy to remove the prostate

Radiotherapy – using targeted radiation to treat the cancer

Hormone therapy – sometimes used alongside other treatments

Chemotherapy – in certain cases where more advanced treatment is needed

Throughout your care, Mr Hawary will support you every step of the way, making sure you feel informed, comfortable, and cared for.

Helping You Feel Better: Kidney Stones and Other Urological Conditions

If you're experiencing problems like kidney stones, urinary infections, or other urological concerns, Mr Hawary is here to help with expert care and the latest technology.
Kidney stones can cause intense pain and discomfort. Mr Hawary uses advanced laser treatment (laser lithotripsy) to safely break up the stones into tiny pieces—making it easier to remove them without the need for open surgery.

He also offers diagnosis and treatment for a wide range of other urological conditions, including:

Bladder cancer and bladder growths

Ongoing or recurrent urinary tract infections (UTIs)

Testicular cancer and non-cancerous lumps

Urinary tract stones

Foreskin issues and circumcision procedures

Bladder and pelvic floor problems in women

Whatever your symptoms or concerns, Mr Hawary takes the time to understand your situation and explain your options clearly - ensuring you feel informed, supported, and confident in your care.

Your Questions Answered

  • What is a PSA test, and why might I need one?

The PSA test is a simple blood test that measures the level of a protein made by the prostate. Higher levels can be a sign of an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer. It’s a useful tool that helps doctors spot problems early—even before you notice any symptoms.

  • Will a prostate biopsy hurt?

Most prostate biopsies are done under local anaesthetic, sedation or  a General Anaesthetic. During the procedure, small samples of tissue are taken from the prostate to check for any signs of cancer. It’s quick, and many people find it easier than expected.

  • Are kidney stones something to worry about?

Kidney stones can cause very intense pain, but the good news is they’re usually treatable. Thanks to modern techniques like laser stone surgery, they can often be removed safely and effectively without traditional surgery.
