About Dr Amit Gera

Personal Profile

Dr Amit Gera is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust based at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich. He is the lead clinician for upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary cancer and leads the viral hepatitis service.

Amit qualified with distinction from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in 2000. Following qualification, he undertook specialist training in gastroenterology with a particular focus in liver diseases. Amit gained advanced training in viral hepatitis, hepatobiliary medicine, transplantation and critical care at the Liver Unit at King's College Hospital.

In 2010 he was awarded an endoscopy fellowship by the British Society of Gastroenterology to train in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at The Medical University of South Carolina, USA. Amit has been the training programme director for the prestigious South Thames Gastroenterology training scheme and is currently responsible for running the regional gastroenterology teaching programme.
