Dr Amirtha Rajasekaran has completed her advanced specialist training in dermatology in the UK, gaining invaluable experience at various teaching and university hospitals throughout the West Midlands. Since 2010, she has been delivering specialised consultations in dermatology, beginning her career as a consultant at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS hospitals where she has held both undergraduate and postgraduate leadership roles and has been an integral member of the National Behçet's Centre of Excellence team. Currently she is practising at the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and is based in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, bringing over 20 years of specialised experience to her role.
She offers comprehensive care for a wide range of skin issues, catering to both general and specialised dermatological requirements. She has a comprehensive understanding of the management of psoriasis, eczema, acne, and rosacea, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of benign lesions, skin cancer, and pre-cancerous conditions. She conducts thorough assessments of moles and oversees a range of conditions such as hair disorders, vasculitis, connective tissue diseases, blistering disorders, hidradenitis suppurativa, pigmentary skin issues, and vulval skin concerns.
Her expertise encompasses the evaluation and surgical management of skin cancer and teledermatology, along with medical dermatology and disorders related to the vulva. She participates actively in multidisciplinary teams dedicated to skin cancer and medical dermatology. She possesses a postgraduate certification in medical education and is recognised as an accredited educational supervisor, engaging actively in both undergraduate and postgraduate education and supervision. She is involved in research and quality improvement efforts, with publications addressing topics such as vitiligo, phototherapy, and key considerations for skin of colour.
Her objective is to deliver comprehensive and accessible care for patients with skin conditions, utilising evidence-based methods for treatment and management in both her NHS and private practices.
