About Mr Amir Ghanbari

Personal Profile

Mr Amir Ghanbari is a highly experienced general and colorectal surgeon, based at the London Independent Hospital and Homerton University Hospital in London.

He specialises in laparoscopic colorectal (keyhole) surgery and his areas of interest include Colorectal Cancers, Inflammatory Bowel Disease (Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative Colitis) and Pelvic Floor Surgery. He is also a skilled endoscopist and performs colonoscopies and Flexible Sigmoidoscopies.

He is highly trained in treating benign ano-rectal conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissure, fistulas and pilonidal sinus disease.

He is an expert in general surgical procedures such as hernia repair and gall bladder surgery as well as emergency procedures such as appendicectomies.

After completing his medical degree at the University of Glasgow, Mr Ghanbari went on to do his surgical training in London and East Midlands including a period of research in Inflammatory Bowel Disease and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) In 2017.

After finishing his fellowship in Pelvic Floor and Inflammatory Bowel Disease Surgery, Mr Ghanbari began his first colorectal consultant surgeon post at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He then returned to London to take up a consultant post at Homerton University Hospital, where he is still based. He joined London Independent Hospital in 2019.

Mr Ghanbari has an active interest in teaching and research. He has written a number of peer-reviewed papers and has presented at national and international meetings. He lectures and supervises medical students as part of their perioperative training and study modules.

He is also an instructor for the Care of the Critically Ill (CCrISP) and Basic Surgical Skills courses.
