Miss Alison Hunter-Smith BMedSci (Hons), BMBS, FRCS (Gen Surg) is a consultant breast surgeon with a specialist interest and training in reconstructive breast surgery and commenced her consultant practice at the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Foundation Trust in 2022. She graduated from The University of Nottingham Medical School in 2008 before moving to the South West where she completed all of her foundation, core and higher surgical training.

Miss Hunter-Smith has a sub-specialist interest in breast cancer for younger women and completed an international research fellowship examining the psycho-social and sexual impact of breast cancer for young women at the University of Calgary, Alberta in 2020. Whilst abroad, she also completed an Observership with the internationally renowned plastics surgeon Dr Elizabeth Hall-Findlay, at the Mineral Springs Hospital Banff, in vertical incision mammoplasty and breast reduction.

In 2021 Miss Hunter-Smith was awarded a National Oncoplastic Breast Surgery training fellowship, completing a year within the department of Plastics and Reconstructive Breast Surgery across both Liverpool trusts (Royal Liverpool University Hospitals & St Helens and Knowsley Hospitals NHS Foundation Trusts) which combined see over 1,200 breast cancers per year.

Miss Hunter-Smith also has a practice within cosmetic or quality of life breast surgery, offering breast reduction surgery, removal of breast implants and breast uplift surgery. She enjoys educating and empowering women to make the right choice for themselves, all within evidence based practice and high quality care.

Miss Hunter-Smith has published and presented at numerous national and international meetings over the past decade and continues this interest as an active member of an international research Executive, working to develop technology to assist patient's self-management and coping during and after their breast cancer experience. She also remains an advocate for patient choice, understanding and practicing advancing oncoplastic breast surgery techniques, aiming to improve patient outcomes and optimise quality of life, long-term.
