About Alex Leggate

Personal Profile

I completed my neurosurgical training in Manchester before being appointed as a consultant at Queens Medical Centre Nottingham in 2020.

I have completed a complex spine and cranial fellowship at St Vincent's Hospital, Melbourne in Australia and the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons approved Neuro-Oncology Fellowship, Manchester.

I am the Neuro-trauma lead for the East Midlands and I am passionate about improving the multi-disciplinary care of head injured patients.

I have a specialist interest in minimally invasive spinal surgery (neck and back) including endoscopic spinal surgery and I am trained in all aspects of spinal pathology and management including spinal injections. I believe in a multidisciplinary approach to spinal problems.

I regularly perform complex neuro-oncology procedures (including awake craniotomy, neurophysiology mapping, intra-operative ultrasound guidance and 5-ALA fluorescence) as well as endoscopic assisted cranial surgery.

My training in some of the UK’s largest neurosurgical units, and practice to date has given me an excellent grasp of general neurosurgical conditions and their management.

I have presented and received awards for my work at multiple national and international conferences.

I am a member of the Neurosurgery Panel of Question Writers for the Neurosurgery fellowship examination.
