He is the Head of Service for Ophtahlmology at the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in London, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and the esteemed World College of Refractive Surgery and Visual Sciences.
Mr Elsahn specialises in premium cataract surgery with Extended Depth of Focus (EDoF) lenses combined with Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS. After surgery, many of his patients achieve excellent spectacle independence, as well as stabilisation of their glaucoma with few or no drops. He has conducted vision correction surgeries around the UK and internationally, and was granted the Certificate of Laser and Refractive Surgery by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.
Mr Elsahn has completed specialist fellowship training in glaucoma, cornea and refractive surgery, gaining expertise in complex glaucoma and anterior segment surgery, corneal and external eye diseases, and cataract and refractive surgery. His colleagues often refer complex cataract cases to him to ensure the best and safest management for those patients. After surgery, many of his patients acheive excellent spectacle independence, as well as stabilisation of their glaucoma with few or no drops.
In 2017, Mr Elsahn completed his PhD in corneal infections from the University of Southampton. Subsequently, he has held various senior positions across multiple NHS Trusts and academic institutions, earning his Certificate of Completion of Training in Ophthalmology from the General Medical Council. He has engaged in extensive laboratory and clinical research throughout his career, and has led several local and international multi-centre clinical trials. His scientific findings have been presented at national and international conferences, and published in several highly regarded peer-reviewed journals. He is a reviewer for the American Journal of Ophthalmology and an Editor of the Ophthalmology Section of Frontiers in Medicine.
Mr Elsahn has a keen interest in medical education. He has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Nottingham, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He has supervised several students in their Bachelor in Medical Sciences degrees, winning best project awards. He currently co-leads the undergraduate ophthalmology teaching program for medical students within his Trust, and has led the development of the blended learning modules for the University of Nottingham. He is currently a visiting senior lecturer at Aston University, developing and delivering the Professional Certificate in Glaucoma program.
