About Mr Adel Makar

Personal Profile

Mr Makar is an experienced Consultant Urological Surgeon with specialist expertise in urological cancers and reconstructive urology. He has worked as a Consultant Urologist since 2002 and has extensive experience in both cancer surgery and complex reconstructive procedures.

Mr Makar completed his Higher Surgical Training in Urology on the South East Thames rotation. During this time, he also undertook a Clinical Lectureship at King’s College Hospital, associated with the GKT Medical School.

He later completed a specialist Uro-oncology Fellowship at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, one of the UK’s leading cancer centres. This fellowship provided advanced training in the management of complex urological cancers.

Mr Makar has been a Consultant Urological Surgeon since 2002. He has held a number of senior leadership roles throughout his career, including:
  • Chair of the Urology Expert Advisory Group (EAG), West Midlands Cancer Alliance (2022–2024)
  • Deputy Chair of the EAG (2019–2022)
  • Lead Cancer Clinician, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust (2008–2019)
  • Associate Medical Director (2013–2019)
  • Urological Cancer Lead for Worcestershire (since 2002)

In these roles, he has helped shape cancer services, improve patient pathways, and support regional clinical governance.

Mr Makar is actively involved in education and training. He contributes as faculty for the Royal College of Surgeons of England Reconstructive and Operative Urology courses and is an invited lecturer at the London Institute of Urology and Nephrology.

He is also involved in research and quality improvement. He works as a peer reviewer for the National Cancer Patient Registry Programme and contributes to several urological journals.

In addition, he is the current President of the Worcestershire Prostate Cancer Support Group, supporting patients and raising awareness of prostate cancer care.

Mr Makar provides specialist care across a wide range of urological conditions. His main clinical interests include:

Urological cancers and reconstructive surgery

  • Prostate cancer
  • Bladder cancer, including neo-bladder reconstruction
  • Kidney cancer, including partial nephrectomy
  • Complex bladder and ureteric reconstruction and substitution

Benign and general urology

  • Benign prostatic enlargement (including TURP)
  • Kidney stone disease
  • Inguinoscrotal conditions (vasectomy, vasectomy reversal, hydrocele, varicocele, hernia repair)
  • Men’s health, including erectile dysfunction
  • Urinary fistula repair
