About Dr Adam Culverwell

Personal Profile

Dr Adam Culverwell is a Consultant Radiologist with over a decade of experience in diagnostic imaging. He completed his radiology training through the West Yorkshire Radiology Academy and subsequently undertook a fellowship in gastrointestinal (GI), abdominal, and interventional radiology at Bradford Royal Infirmary. He has been practicing as a Consultant Radiologist at Harrogate since 2012. 

Dr Culverwell’s clinical practice is underpinned by a strong commitment to delivering tailored, high-quality diagnostic services. He specialises in health screening, abdominal imaging, cancer diagnostics, and non-vascular interventional procedures. His patient-centred approach ensures personalised and compassionate care at every stage of the diagnostic pathway. 

In his NHS role, Dr Culverwell serves as the Lead Cancer Clinician, where he directs a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of comprehensive cancer care. He also leads a Rapid Diagnostic Service, designed to provide timely evaluation for patients with complex or non-specific symptoms, significantly improving early diagnosis and treatment outcomes. 

He is a Senior Honorary Lecturer at the University of Leeds and actively contributes to radiology education and training. His dedication to research is demonstrated through his role as Principal Investigator on several local and national clinical trials, helping to advance diagnostic techniques and improve patient care pathways. 

At the Duchy Hospital, Dr Culverwell provides a comprehensive range of diagnostic procedures with an emphasis on fast, accurate assessment to support timely clinical decision-making. With a focus on innovation and clinical excellence, he offers expert radiological support to both patients and referring clinicians.

 

Clinical Interests

Dr Culverwell’s clinical interests lie primarily in gastrointestinal and abdominal imaging, specialist liver imaging, and cancer diagnostics. He has particular expertise in the use of elastography for liver assessment and cross-sectional imaging for accurate evaluation of abdominal pathology.

  

He is highly experienced in the diagnosis of hernias and groin pain, as well as in soft tissue and lump evaluation. His work in non-vascular interventional radiology includes procedures that enable minimally invasive diagnosis and treatment.
