Professional experience

Dr Abdelaleem qualified in medicine in 2007, obtaining his MBBCh before completing an MSc in Rheumatology and a PhD in Rheumatology. Following his specialist training, he was appointed as a Consultant Rheumatologist at Al-Azhar University Hospitals, where he managed a wide range of complex inflammatory and autoimmune rheumatic diseases within a tertiary referral setting.

Since relocating to the UK in 2017, he has worked within NHS Wales. From 2019 to 2025, he served as a Locum Consultant Rheumatologist at Hywel Dda University Health Board before being appointed to a substantive Consultant Rheumatologist position in 2025. He now provides consultant-led rheumatology services at Withybush Hospital and private consultations at Werndale Hospital, Carmarthen.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Abdelaleem is actively involved in teaching and supporting junior doctors and specialist trainees. He contributes to multidisciplinary team working, clinical governance and service development to help ensure the highest standards of patient care.
