About Dr Abbas Ismail

Personal Profile

Dr Ismail qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1989. He trained in Metabolic bone disease in hospitals in the Greater Manchester area.

He has been a Consultant in Osteoporosis management at Stockport NHS Trust since the year 2000. Dr Ismail gained a prestigious 'Wellcome Trust' fellowship to undertake research in a large European study of osteoporosis in both men and women. This resulted in numerous scientific articles being published and presentations of his research globally at scientific meetings. It also resulted in him being awarded an MD thesis from The University of Manchester.

Dr Ismail established the Osteoporosis Service in Stockport in 2004 and more recently, a Fracture Prevention Nurse Led Service. He is the current Director of the Osteoporosis Service in Stockport and receives osteoporosis referrals both locally and regionally, often from GPs, orthopaedic surgeons and other clinicians wanting further help with management of their patients.

He has an approachable manner, makes patients feel relaxed during consultations and has very good communication skills. He has an excellent secretary, Beverley Burnett who answers queries promptly.

Dr Ismail has 2 daughters and his hobbies include sailing, skiing and during the summer months enjoys riding his Honda Goldwing motorcycle.
