Health assessments

A health check offers an excellent opportunity to detect and treat health issues in their early stages

A health assessment, also known as a health check, is a thorough check-up of your overall health. Health checks are performed by specialists to help you gain a better understanding of your physical and mental wellbeing.

Health checks often focus on preventative health. They are performed to detect problems in their early stages, as well as risk factors for certain conditions that might run in your family. Health checks can also detect more advanced health problems that haven't yet been discovered, helping you get diagnosed and find the right treatment fast.

The type of specialist who performs your health check will depend on the type of assessment you have. At Circle Health Group, we offer a range of different health assessments to help people in different circumstances. All our health assessments help you to monitor your health and, should any problems be identified in your results, you'll get fast access to expert treatment and advice from the right specialist for you.

There are many reasons why you might want a health assessment with our team of specialists.

This is normally because you have concerns about your health due to symptoms, or you have a history of health issues in your family that you want to check risk factors for. Not only can a health assessment diagnose your problem, it can also detect any risk factors present, and provide you with practical advice to minimise them through lifestyle changes such as diet and exercise.

At Circle Health Group, our multidisciplinary teams include nurses, doctors, radiographers, consultants and more. Together, we can perform your health assessment, analyse your results, and then find the best way to treat, manage, or even eliminate any health problems identifued.

There are many different health tests that can diagnose a number of conditions. Health checks are a brilliant way to detect risk factors for conditions that run in your family. For example:

Type 1 and 2 diabetes

If you have a history of diabetes in your family, there are certain risk factors and symptoms that can be detected and monitored with health checks to ensure you minimise your risk of developing the condition. Some of the risk factors for diabetes include:

Your weight: being overweight can increase your likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes. Your body mass index (BMI) can be recorded and monitored during health checks to ensure you are at a healthy weight for your height.

Polycystic ovary syndrome: if you have PCOS, you are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes. But, it is possible to have PCOS and not develop type 2 diabetes.

High blood pressure: high blood pressure can increase your likelihood of developing diabetes.

Abnormal cholesterol levels: diabetes can interfere with your cholesterol levels, causing lower levels of HDL (good) cholesterol and higher levels of LDL/non-HDL (bad) cholesterol.

Cardiovascular (heart) disease

If you have a history of heart disease in your family, there are certain risk factors and symptoms that can be detected and monitored with health checks to ensure you do not increase your risk of developing the condition. Your assessment might include the monitoring of your cardiovascular risk score, which tells you whether you are at low, moderate or high risk of developing problems with your heart in the next 10 years. Some of the risk factors for cardiovascular disease include:

High blood pressure: having high blood pressure can increase your likelihood of heart disease.

High cholesterol: this is when you have too much of a fatty substance called cholesterol in your blood. It can increase the likelihood of you developing heart disease.

Being overweight: excess weight can lead to fatty material building up in your arteries (the blood vessels that carry blood to your organs). If the arteries that carry blood to your heart get clogged, you are at greater risk of having a heart attack.
