Respite Care at Shirley Oaks Hospital

Caring for someone can often be a full-time role, and like with any job, can sometimes require a short break. Respite care provides the help and support to enable a family member or carer a break-away from the responsibility of looking after a loved one.

At The Shirley Oaks Hospital, we understand coming into hospital can often be an emotional and stressful time for many. Our priority is to ensure all of our patients receive the best possible clinical care, giving you the peace of mind that your loved ones are in a safe and caring environment.

Arranging admission for respite care

Admissions for respite care can be referred by a patient’s GP, as they will be able to assess the level of care needed for your loved one. Self referrals are also accepted, however a pre-assessment will be required by the hospital at an additional cost of £100.

Patients becoming ill during their stay

If the length of stay extends beyond the planned respite care period due to illness, you will be advised on the necessary arrangements that will need to be made, and any additional costs before treatment commences.

You can feel reassured that your loved one will be under the continued supervision of our nursing team for the duration of their stay, and will be able to support the transition of continuous care from home to hospital.

On departure you will be advised of any follow-up treatment required.

Payment

Payment for respite care at The Shirley Oaks Hospital will not be funded by your insurance company, and therefore is available through a self-pay option.

1 night £500, inclusive of single room, meals, nursing care and 1 physiotherapy session

7 nights £3,000, inclusive of single room, meals, nursing care, up to 4 physiotherapy sessions and up to 2 consultant visits.

At the hospital During a patient’s stay at the hospital, they will benefit from an individual room with an en-suite bathroom, specialist catering needs, including kosher meals and 24-hour on-site care. Our nursing team can provide assistance to all clinical and daily living issues.
