Mr Yazan Masannat

Yazan Masannat is an Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon, currently working at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. After completing the basic surgical training in Wales, Mr Masannat undertook a period of research at the Leeds Teaching Hospitals and The University of Leeds. He was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) for his research into the biological effects of the dyes used in sentinel node biopsy. He then trained as a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery in the South East Thames Rotation in the London Deanery.

He trained in well known breast units at the Princess Royal University Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas's Hospitals where he gained experience in oncoplastic breast surgery and reconstruction. He was awarded the highly competitive National Oncoplastic Fellowship where he received advanced training in Oncoplastic breast surgery and reconstruction in Mid-Essex Hospitals (Broomfield Hospital and St Andrews Centre for Plastic Surgery) followed by a further fellowship at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. During the National Oncoplastic Fellowship, he was awarded the Association of Breast Surgeons Trainee Award where he visited two units in Europe.

The first was Prof Moustapha Hamdi (Professor of Plastic Surgery in Brussels) and Dr Krishna Clough at the Paris Breast Institute.
