Personal Profile

Mr. Jackson is an experienced specialist knee surgeon with an interest and expertise in the management of sports knee injuries.
 
William Trained at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School. He completed his surgical training in London before moving to Oxford for his specialist orthopaedic training.  

Prior to starting as a Consultant in the UK he undertook Fellowship training at the North Sydney Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre in Australia. This is recognised as one of the world leading units in the management of sports knee injuries.

In 2011 he set up the ‘Oxford Acute Knee Service’ and he continues to lead this service.  Here he sees a large number of patients from the local area who have sustained knee ligament damage after common sporting injuries (most frequently football, rugby, hockey, netball and skiing.)
He also sees a significant number of patients with more complex knee injuries, often referred in from surrounding hospitals. 

He has published widely on a wide range of issues surrounding knee problems and treatment. He trains knee surgeons and has Fellows that come and work with him from around the world. He is regularly asked to teach at courses about sports knee injuries and ligament reconstructions.

Mr Jackson has an arthroplasty (knee replacement) practice based in Oxford and has an international reputation in the world of partial knee replacements.

Research interests

Mr Jackson is part of the Oxford Knee Group, He works closely with other surgeons and Academics from Oxford University. The group has a range of research interests from basic science research in understanding how and why Osteoarthritis in the knee develops, through to psychological profiling and looking at factors that influence outcomes from surgical procedures. He helps supervise a number of clinical and research fellows.

Mr Jackson has over 40 peer-reviewed publications, a range of book chapters, and is regularly asked to present work at meetings around the world.
