Dr. Walter Melia is a Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist with a special interest in liver disease. He qualified in Ireland (NUIG). He acquired extensive experience in Liver Disease at Registrar level for 5 years on the King’s College Hospital Liver Unit. He became a Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist in 1989 and was a Consultant in the British Army from 1989 – 1997 based at QEMH Woolwich for most of this time.
He started working as a Consultant Physician & Gastroenterologist at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust in 1997. He has been Clinical Director for Emergency Medicine and Lead Clinician for Cancer Services. He is currently the Clinical Governance Lead for the Gastroenterology Department.
His special areas of interest are liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, GI malignancy and management of Hepatitis B & C. He provides a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic GI endoscopy service including ERCP.
