Personal Profile

Mr Vikas Chadha has been a Consultant in the West of Scotland since 2009 and is now a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology at Gartnavel General Hospital. He graduated from the University of Delhi in 1997 and underwent his basic and higher specialist training in ophthalmology at Edinburgh before undertaking a Fellowship in Ophthalmic Oncology and Oculoplastic Surgery at Glasgow.

Mr Chadha is an experienced cataract surgeon having performed thousands of cataract surgeries. He rigorously audits his results and has found his success rate well above the UK national standards with an overall complication rate of less than 1 percent. He also routinely performs and trains surgeons in eyelid surgery (such as blepharoplasty), ptosis surgery (for droopy eyelids) and surgery for eye cancers.

Mr Chadha is one of two Consultants responsible for delivering the Scottish Ocular Oncology Service that is centrally funded by the National Services Division, a division of National Services Scotland - a national NHS Board. This runs in conjunction with, and complimentary to, his tertiary referral oculoplastics and orbital service, his cataract operating lists, and general ophthalmology clinics. His service runs an International Fellowship Programme where doctors from around the world are given training in the niche areas or ocular oncology and orbital surgery.

Mr Chadha is the Training Programme Director for West of Scotland ophthalmology training course; the largest training programme in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK. He is also Chair of the Curriculum Sub-committee at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London, and is responsible for the ophthalmology curriculum across the UK. He is an examiner for both Royal College of Ophthalmologists and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He is organiser of the Glasgow FRCOphth Prep Course and faculty member on the ChM Masters programme in Ophthalmology run by the University of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is also Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow.

Mr Chadha's previous roles include Clinical Lead for Oculoplastics at NHGGC, College Tutor at Gartnavel General Hospital, Convener for the 'Part 2' of the Royal College of Glasgow Fellowship examinations, Executive committee member of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society (BOPSS), and College Tutor at Hairmyres Hospital.

Mr Chadha has over 35 peer-reviewed publications in international journals, has co-authored book chapters and is regularly invited to review papers for many leading ophthalmology journals. He has been an invited speaker at a number of national and international meetings including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists Congress, British Oculoplastic Surgery Society Annual meeting, and the Scottish Ophthalmological Club Meeting.
