Personal Profile

Dr Shiroma De Silva-Minor is a Consultant Oncologist specialising in Breast and Colorectal cancers and radiotherapy for Lymphomas and non melanomatous skin cancers.

Dr De Silva-Minor graduated from University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff in 1995 and became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1999. Having chosen to specialise in Clinical Oncology, Dr De Silva-Minor trained as a specialist registrar in London, working at nationally renowned cancer centres at UCL The Middlesex Hospital, The Royal Free and The Royal Marsden Hospital amongst others. She became a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) in 2003.

She undertook a fellowship in Head and Neck Radiation Oncology at The Princess Margaret Hospital, Toronto, Canada where Dr De Silva-Minor was awarded the Prize for Academic Excellence, by the Princess Margaret Hospital and University of Toronto for her research looking at the use of PETCT for identifying tumours of the head and neck for treatment with radiotherapy. Dr De Silva-Minor has presented her research at international conferences including The Annual meeting of the Canadian Association of Radiation Oncologists (CARO) in British Columbia and the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO) in Colorado in 2005 and in Philadelphia in November 2006 and at the European Society of Therapeutic Radiation and Oncology (ESTRO) in September 2007.

Dr De Silva-Minor was appointed Consultant Clinical Oncologist at The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008. Based at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford she also practises at The Great Western Hospital, Swindon and The Ridgeway in Wroughton.

Dr De Silva has been involved in various departmental strategy groups including the Research and Development board, Radiotherapy Technical group and Oncology Clinical Governance group. She has been involved in the move to get a satellite radiotherapy unit in Swindon and last year won a sizeable charitable grant for the Churchill Hospital to implement state of the art technology for treating patients with Total Body Irradiation.
