Personal Profile

Mrs Reynolds first developed her interest in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as a medical student qualifying from St George’s Hospital (University of London) in 1988. House jobs in St George’s and York District Hospital followed before she began training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Two years of basic training were undertaken in large London teaching hospitals before she undertook 2 years of research in urogynaecology at St George’s Hospital which was one of the leading centres with referrals from many other hospitals. During this time Mrs Reynolds was able to participate in the management of many complex patients and also perform surgical procedures for the treatment of urinary incontinence. In 1993 Mrs Reynolds was appointed to a Registrar training programme in what was then South West Thames. Based around St George’s Hospital the 5 year training included posts in district and teaching hospitals. Mrs Reynolds gained her CCST (Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training) in 1999. She was appointed to a consultant post in Bedford in 2000 where she continues to work.

In Bedford she leads for urogynaecology where she undertakes a range of procedures for urinary incontinence and prolapse. NICE guidance regarding the use of mesh for surgery and the establishment of MDTs (Multidisciplinary teams) are followed. Patients undergoing surgery for urinary incontinence are discussed in the local MDT with urologists and physiotherapists before surgery is agreed for both private and NHS patients.

Within the NHS Mrs Reynolds runs the vulval clinic in conjunction with a consultant dermatologist and has a high-risk antenatal clinic. She continues to practice obstetrics alongside her gynaecology commitments
Recent publicity in issues around the menopause has generated lots of referrals for consideration of HRT and other menopause-related issues. Mrs Reynolds is a member of the British Menopause Society, is seeking to be a registered Menopause Specialist and is able to advise on the management of the peri-menopause and postmenopausal women’s health.

Mrs Reynolds has a keen interest in Medical Education. She holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and is the Royal College Tutor in the Department. Her educational interests are reflected in her work for the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists where she leads the Equivalence Group and is involved with reviewing the Advanced Training Curricula.

Mrs Reynolds represents gynaecological services within the hospital at The Manor Hospital Medical Advisory Committee which she has previously chaired. She runs weekly clinics for private insured and self-funding patients only.
