Mr Craigen trained at Guy’s Hospital in London and carried out general surgical and orthopaedic training in various centres. His orthopaedic training took place in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton and he also carried out specialist hand Fellowships at Wrightington Hospital in Wigan and also the Kleinert Institute in Louisville, Kentucky, USA. He was initially appointed as a Senior Lecturer (Honorary Consultant) at Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham in 1995 and then moved to Birmingham as a Consultant Hand & Orthopaedic Surgeon in 1997.
Mr Craigen’s current practice is exclusively in surgery of the hand, wrist and elbow at the Queen Elizabeth and Royal Orthopaedic Hospitals.
He is involved with teaching and training both locally and nationally and in international conferences. He is also involved in medical students and the department at the QEH has a number of senior trainees that come to Birmingham for specialist hand surgery training. He has published widely, particularly on the management of wrist and spasticity problems in the upper limb.
