He is a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and under took his higher specialist training in Dublin, Cork and the United States. He holds Specialist Registration in Orthopaedics with the General Medical Council.
Mr Black maintains a keen interest in Orthopaedic education, having been an Examiner for the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examinations for over 10 years and is now an Examiner Assessor, a member of the question writing group and a standard setter for the Intercollegiate Examination.
Extensive experience in research was gained during his time in the United States, especially in areas of implant failure and synthetic bone graft. He continues to maintain his continuing professional development at International and National meetings and has been revalidated by the GMC in 2015.
Experience of governance was gained as a member of the Orthopaedic Advisory Committee to Welsh Government, a member of Council of the British Orthopaedic Association and as Past President of the Welsh Orthopaedic Society.
Mr Black now provides full time services as an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Werndale Hospital, Bancyfelin on an out-patient and in-patient basis.
