Personal Profile

Mr Jason Yap is a consultant Gynaecologist and Gynaecological Oncologist currently based in Pan Birmingham Gynaecological Cancer Centre, a regional tertiary cancer centre for Birmingham. He is also the lead clinician for vulval disease, offering specialist treatment for benign, pre-cancerous and cancerous condition of the vulva.

Mr Yap studied medicine at University College London, UK, graduating in 2005 with an award in the subject of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He then moved to Birmingham and completed his specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2020, and at the same time obtained his sub-specialist accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology. He also undertook additional specialist training in managing women with benign and pre-cancerous vulval conditions.

In the final year of his clinical training, he won a Travelling Fellowship from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and undertook further specialist training in vulval reconstruction surgery in Germany. He helped setup the vulval plastic reconstruction surgery service in his cancer centre.

Mr Yap also holds a PhD degree in cancer study, and he is actively involved in clinical research, and has published extensively in scientific and medical journals.

He is passionate in promoting safe and evidence-base medical/surgical treatment to patients.

1. Screening and diagnosis of gynaecological cancer
2. Surgical treatment for Gynaecological cancer and pre-cancerous condition (vulva, cervix, ovarian, uterus, vagina)
3. Laparoscopic (key hole) surgery for diagnosis, hysterectomy, female sterilisation, removal of ovaries, Fallopian tubes and cancer treatment
4. Vulval reconstructive surgery following cancer treatment/previous surgery
5. Vulval and pelvic pain (vulvodynia, vaginismus, pelvic pain)
6. Vulval disease (e.g. VIN, Lichen Sclerosus, Lichen Planus ... etc)
7. Plastic surgery of the vulva/perineum (e.g. Modified Fenton’s vestibulectomy for vulvodynia, perineal refashioning after child birth trauma and labial reduction for cosmetic)
8. Surgical and non-surgical management of benign and pre-cancerous vulval disease, including vulvodynia
9. Women with period (menstrual) problem and other gynaecological conditions
