Personal Profile

Dr Iain Findlay qualified from Dundee University. He trained initially in Liverpool and Northampton before completing higher medical training in Glasgow. He was British Heart Foundation Research Fellow at the Western Infirmary Glasgow before taking up his consultant post at the Royal Alexandra Hospital Paisley in 1989 where he worked full time until 2018. He was Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Medicine and lectured and taught clinical bedside medicine throughout his career. He was responsible for the creation of Glasgow University 3rd year Patient Based Learning in Cardiology. He established and became lead clinician for the Inherited Cardiac Conditions Service for the West of Scotland based at the QEUH.

Dr Findlay is the Cardiologist at the Hampden Sports Clinic and provides services for the Institute of Sports Scotland and various professional sporting organisations. He is an accredited cardiologist providing opinions for the Civil Aviation Authority through their local Aero-Medical Examiners.

He is a Past Vice President of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and Past President of the Scottish Cardiac Society.

Dr Findlay is a general cardiologist with a special interest in Cardiomyopathy and sudden cardiac death and conditions associated with this such as long QT syndrome.

He remains in close contact with the West of Scotland Inherited Cardiac Conditions Service. This overlaps with his interest in Sports Cardiology. He is fully conversant with the protocols of care and investigation required by the Civil Aviation Authority. He was recognised by the POTS UK (postural orthostatic hypotension syndrome) as a clinician with an interest in the West of Scotland for patients suffering from his condition and has recently seen patients with long Covid.
