Personal Profile

Georgette Oni is one of a handful of Plastic and Reconstructive surgeons in the UK who are dual qualified also in breast surgical oncology.  Her plastic surgery training was in the East of England (Cambridge, Norwich, Chelmsford, London) where she became trained to a high level in all types of plastic surgery specialising in breast reconstruction.  She was an aesthetic fellow in London where her aesthetic skills were further honed.  She was also a prestigious TIG national Oncoplastic Breast Fellow and is now a Consultant at Nottingham Breast Institute, which is one of the leading units for Oncoplastic Breast surgery in the country.  She offers the full range of cosmetic surgery of the body, breast procedures from oncoplastic breast conservation through to microvascular free flap breast reconstruction as well as non-surgical treatments.

Her PhD research was conducted in the world-renowned plastic surgery unit at UT Southwestern in Dallas and focused on non-surgical aesthetic treatments.  She has authored over 50 publications, has numerous international presentations and has co-authored a book chapter on breast reconstruction.  She is a core member of the steering committee of the Nottingham Breast Cancer Research Center and is involved with national and international research collaborations in conjunction with University of Nottingham where she is an Honorary Assistant Professor.

She was a Lady Estelle Wolfson Emerging Leader fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS Eng) and more recently the Aesthetic society (formally American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, ASAPS) International Fellow.   She is the specialist advisor on oncoplastic breast surgery and assistant editor (Annals, plastic surgery section) for RCS Eng.  She is a member of BAPRAS, ABS, ABrS, BABS and BAAPS which reflects the breadth of her training.

She is a mentor to aspiring female surgeons particularly from a BAME background.  She is a keen teacher/lecturer/health advocate particularly overseas where she has been involved in health outreach programs and breast health education.  She is the founder of the ‘Let’s talk about…Black Women and Breast cancer annual’ conference and trustee for Breast Cancer Now.
