Colin Harris General Surgery

Personal Profile

Mr Colin Harris qualified from the University of Glasgow in 1991. He trained on the Glasgow surgical rotation before taking up a Registrar position in Manchester, he elected not to do a period of research, concentrating on clinical surgery which allowed him to specialise in both upper and  lower gastrointestinal surgery. He was appointed as a consultant general surgeon in 2003 specialising in both Upper GI (including hepatobiliary) and Lower GI surgery.

He embraced minimal access (laparoscopic) surgery at an early stage and has concentrated on developing this service in all his surgical specialties. He has sought further training in Europe and  the United States from internationally recognised experts in both Bariatric and Hepatobiliary surgery.

He is also very keen to develop SILS (Single incision laparoscopic surgery) and NOTES (Natural orifice transluminal endoscopic surgery), he is a firm believer that as technology advances that these techniques will form surgery of the future.

Mr Harris now practices solely in the independent sector allowing him to devote all his time to his surgical interests and continuity of patient care.

Although Mr Harris devotes a considerable amount of time to his clinical pursuits he maximises his holidays especially if they involve a snow covered mountain or golf course.
