Personal Profile
Mr Francis achieved Fellowship of The Podiatric Association in 1971. He went on to obtain his consultancy in Podiatric Surgery within the NHS at Charing Cross Hospital (Hammersmith & Fulham), where he established The Department of Podiatric Surgery. His consultancy work was extended into the Herts. & Essex Hospital, Bishops Stortford, where he is still in practice.
Clinically his work includes most problems of the foot and ankle with an emphasis on forefoot surgery. Mr Francis had the privilege of working alongside Dr Lowell Scott Weil, a leading light in Podiatric Surgery, and an advocate of the scarf procedure and whose other work includes the development of the Weil Osteotomy.
Mr Francis was appointed in 1984 and 1988 as the first podiatrist to the British Olympic Medical Team and travelled with the team to Los Angeles and Seoul, working closely alongside the leading athletes at those games. He also attended in the same capacity the 1986 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. He was also for a while associated with the British Lawn Tennis Association as consultant.
Mr Francis was a Member of The Ruling Council of the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists for 12 years and chaired the Professional Conduct Committee. He is currently a Member of the Faculty of the Board of Podiatric Surgeons. He continues to work in both the private and NHS sector.
