Personal profile

Mr Mostafa Metwally is a Consultant Gynaecologist and Fertility Specialist who has helped countless women with the management of common conditions like endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, and menstrual bleeding issues.

He is also an expert in the latest hysteroscopic and laparoscopic surgical techniques that can reduce or eliminate the distressing and painful symptoms associated with these conditions. Thanks to his expertise in the field, he is able to improve his patients’ quality of life, removing their stress with rapid diagnosis and swift treatment.

Whether you’re a young woman struggling with menstrual disorders, a couple seeking help to conceive, or a woman going through menopause suffering from a prolapse, uterine anomalies or other gynaecological concerns, Mr Metwally will ensure you receive the best possible treatment and friendly care.

Cutting-Edge Surgical Techniques

Thanks to cutting-edge facilities at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Jessop Wing and Thornbury Hospitals where he works, Mr Metwally is able to offer the highest-quality care whether consulting with a patient, investigating a condition or carrying out treatments.

He specialises in the latest keyhole, minimal access surgical techniques, especially myomectomy, hysteroscopic surgery for fibroids and uterine anomalies and laparoscopic hysterectomy. Since these advanced techniques reduce the pain experienced by the patient and shorten recovery times, he believes they’re the optimal choice for women suffering from a range of conditions.

Improving Fertility Outcomes For Couples

Since 1991, Mr Metwally has supported thousands of women and their partners in their efforts to conceive. Thanks to his interest in reproductive medicine, he specialises in all aspects of this discipline, including reproductive surgery and fertility treatments.

Mr Metwally understands the distress experienced by couples who struggle to become pregnant and maintain a pregnancy to full term. However, as a leading sub-specialist in Fertility Surgery and as a leading Consultant at Sheffield’s Jessop Fertility Centre, one of the most successful NHS-funded fertility clinics in the country, he is able to provide a comprehensive range of reproductive treatments.

Couples experiencing fertility problems can benefit from in-depth investigations and effective treatments including sterilisation reversal, tubal surgery, treatment of uterine anomalies, ovulation induction, ICSI and IVF. For couples who have experienced the pain of recurrent miscarriage, he can also carry out investigations to get to the heart of the issue and assist couples who have managed to conceive but who are experiencing early pregnancy difficulties.

Mr Metwally has long held an affinity with Sheffield, having completed his initial training at the Jessop Wing and Royal Hallamshire Hospital in the city. After a short period working as an NHS Consultant in Dundee at Ninewells Hospital and Medical School, he was delighted to return to Sheffield to take up a post as a Consultant at Thornbury Hospital and the Jessop Wing at Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

This remains his primary NHS base today, although he also serves private patients across Sheffield and South Yorkshire. He is proud to provide a truly personalised level of care for his patients and is dedicated to helping the thousands of women who experience distressing gynaecological or fertility issues during their lifetime.

Mr Metwally also has a strong research interest and has published widely. He continues to present regularly at a national and international level, and is Chairperson for the training committee at the British Fertility Society, training the fertility specialists of the future.
